An electronic book, also called an e-book, ebook, digital book, and even e-editions, is a book-length publication in digital form. Produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices such as Kindle or Nooks. Some mobile phones can also be used to read e-books.
Members of the Army have several e-book collections provided for them via the AKO web site. To access them sign in to your account. Under the AKO title click on the Self Service drop down menu.
Click the My Library Link
This link opens to a page full of information sources. Click on the Read or Listen to a Book Button.
This will open a page with Links to several E-Book libraries.
Army Digital Media Library
Once you have created an account you can download current popular fiction and nonfiction e-books, audio books, music, and videos for free. This is a library service and you may only keep the item for up to 21 days before it will expire and disappear from your device.
Safari Books Online
Safari Books Online is a digital library providing access to thousands of learning resources. They cover the technology, creative & business areas by providing books, videos & interactive learning tools.
TumbleBooks Library is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach children the joy of reading in a format they’ll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have your child read to you.
Ebsco host Ebook & Audio Books (formerly Netlibrary)
Full-text electronic versions of published books such as ASVAB Core Review, computer books, resume books and over 200 Cliffs Notes.
As a unique offering to the military community, the Department of Defense is making available over 400 e-books including Encyclopedia Britannica, 95 books covering legal issues, 24 foreign language guides, and 169 “For Dummies…”books.
OneClickDigital Audio books
OneClickdigital from Recorded Books (beta version) provides access to downloadable MP3 and WMA audiobooks-all iPod compatible. Their Audiobooks can be downloaded to your home computer and moved to mobile devices.
